Enjoy.

End of year status report.

I've been lazed in writing my blog. I didn't realized how much until I looked here.

I went to the ORA conference in September and got a request for my book. I finally sent it last week. I had to do a synopsis and write a brief letter. If I don't hear back from them in three weeks I'm talking to Sharon Holmes about self-publishing...

Fire, the next book in the series, is six pages in now (A little over 1500 words) instead of just two. I did the two pages during Jano while I was doing Earth. Fire Walker is the tentative title for it right now. Fire Balance and Fire Gage are other contenders. Which do you like?

This book is about a fire starter, a person who is connected to the fire element, much like Sara is connected to the Earth element, killing people with his gift. It allows him/her to control fire with his/her will. I'm messing around with the idea of either twins or multiple personalities...

Multiple personalities is winning. :)

Then there is Nick and Sara's wedding plans...

So the end of year status is one book down, and four more to go. Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Aether.
And a manuscript sent off.

Earth Reader first draft is done!

Well, Earth Reader is done.

Now the editing begins.

Took me 16 months to finish. It is 224 pages and 55,359 words as is, right now.  When I finish 1st edit who knows what it will be. Of course, I edited as I went along too. Can't help that. But now I have to go through the whole book and look for consistancy as well.

All I got to do now is get it published. I want to go the self-pub way, but with the way emergencies keep coming up to take my money...I'm tapped out again. I swear as soon as I get enough to rub together something happens.  Anyway, I plan to publish one way or another before the year is out.

I've started on the next book Fire. Fire Walker to be exact. I had already started the first page of it during JANO and won 2nd place for best first sentence with it. It needed tightening up and I added a few lines. So I'll be working on it and editing Earth. Can't sit still; ADD to the attack. :)

The third book will be either air or water. If it's air, I plan to call it Wind Talker. But I don't have a name for Water. Do you have any ideas?  If you do, please comment.

That's the status for now. One book done, editing to go. And another book started with 2 more to go after that. Maybe more. I got an Idea for a fifth book perculating.

Earth Book Status

Well, I just finished chapter 16.  I've killed the bad guy off and sent the heroine to the hotel. And you all know what happens in hotels (LOL).

Sex and Murder.

Anyway, Chapter 17 has one of them and a little surprise to it so...

Chapter 18 will close up the case and send the protags on their way. So Chapter 18 is the last chapter and I'll officially be finished with my first draft of my book. Of course then comes the editing.

Once I'm finished I'm sending the first three chapters to someone to look over. I had already sent them the first chapter ages ago and made changes.  I edit as I go. I guarentee that for every line I have, I wrote three and changed it until it was only one. I don't like to babble on when it comes to my book so I try to cut down on how much I write. In doing that though I take out a lot of stuff that others may want to know. But I hate being too wordy. I'm not a literary fiction writer!  I like short and sweet.

Anyway, I'm almost done. Just two chapters and I'm done!

Oh, I sold two of my T-shirts with the book's cover on them. One of the aides that comes here at my highrise to take Blood Pressure readings saw my shirt and liked it.  She bought two.  I gave away another one as a door prize and I have another person thinking about buying one. Once I get my book published, I may use the rest as table/door prizes of my own as promotion.

So two chapters to go. YES> YES

Long time, no see

So guess it's past time to give a status report.  I've been looking for a job the past months and got one.  I'm a server at a senior living facility.  Once I get settled in to working again, I'll spend more time on my book. I haven't really been working on it recently, just a few words here and there.

I'm almost finished with my book. I've got about 3 to 4 chapters to go and I'll be done with my first draft. Then of course comes the editting.  I'm working on the leading-up-to part but the confrontation itself can go two ways with the same ending. The confrontation is the reveal of course so got to do it right. :)

I've also been re-reading some of my books at bedtime. It helps me relax since I've been restless and having trouble getting to sleep.  Murder mysteries, of course.  The puzzle's the thing, as they say. :)

The MO Lottery has that points for prizes thing going on.  I've used some points and got a set of Corelle wear.  I'm accumilating points, but I don't know what I want next. I have enough points for either a metal detector, a cd/dvd player, or a freezer full of meat.  What do you think?  Should I mention that I don't cook much? :)

What's happening so far...

First--status report: I've finished chapter 13 of my Earth book and started on 14. I plan to write 4 more chapters to finish the book. I hope to be done before the end of this month if I stay on schedule and write every night.

The killer is leading them on a chase to his past where a secret is reveal.

Second--I'm giving away T-shirts with my book's proposed cover art for donations of $20 or more towards the cost of printing my book. The art is an elemental symbol for earth with a sand-painting like stick figure that reminds me of a douser, one who essentially 'reads' the earth.

Third--Once I'm done with my book, I'll need a few beta readers. Interested?

I edit my book as I go along. I finish a chapter and re-read it, making changes before I move on to the next chapter. However, I'm terrible at spelling and run-on sentences. Also when I write, I tell the story mainly through dialogue.  I'd like someone to read the book all the way through though and tell me about it as a whole as well as correct my minor errors. :)

I think that's all for now. I really should be working on my book, not procastinating with this blog/ :)

Jano & book status

JANO is over.  I managed 14,384 words, even though I was sick most of the month.  First strep-throat, then a cold, then sinuses acting up.  I was hoping to make at least 15,000, but maybe next year I can make it to 25,000 words or even the 50,000 words.

The Jano Party was tonight. There were two books and a little gift bag at each seat. We ate, then got down to the contests.  I got second place in the best first sentence contest. It was the first sentence of the Fire book which I wrote on as well as the Earth book during JANO.

"The arson scene before Sara Phillips gave the words 'crispy critters' a whole new meaning."

I decided to call the Earth book, Earth's Cipher. Knowing me I'll probably change it again but I like it for now. I still like Earth Reader as well so...Anyway, Earth has 37,330 words and Fire only has 272 words--mainly the first page. I also wrote a scene for Water which I took to one of my book clubs and they said it needed a hook, but they loved the relationship between the characters.  So I'm 12 chapters and 148 pages into Earth book, and I just revealed the killer, but he's disappeared.  More chapters to come.

Here is the blurb I did when I first started Earth.

Bodies with an unusual method of killing have been unearthed in a small town, and Sara Phillips is called in to consult by the local sheriff.  The FBI had shown up and claim there are others.  During the joint investigation, Death stalks Sara herself before the killer is revealed.  This discovery leads to the information that the killer and Sara have something in common.  Something which led them down the path they were now on.

As you can see it's a bit vague, but sums up the basic story idea I had when I first concieved Sara's gift and her use of it.  I figure to use the basic concept of unusual deaths to led the investigators into the story, using the four elements to start with, then perhaps still using the unusual death angle continue on.

But of course I got to finish my first book. So I best finish this blog and get to writing on my story.

New Year and JANO

Well, it's the first day of the year and JANO is here.  As you can see I've put a word counter up, but whether I can use it is another think. :)

I plan to work on the Earth book, but I also included the second book in this series since I don't know what my muse will do to me during this month. I've been thinking about the other books in the series the last two weeks and not getting much done on Earth.  As I've said in my last post, I've intro'd the killer and a red herring in my last chapter, but I've also intro'd a few red herrings in the eighth, which is where I'm starting JANO.

I love to give teasers.

I added the rough draft of my first chapter's first two pages under Teaser 1 as you can see. I've worked on it a bit during the last two weeks and have changed things up a little. I can never not edit which means JANO is going to be so hard for me.  Please read and write a comment about the teaser. I can always use the feedback.  I'll probably put another teaser up soon.  Should it be the next chapter or should I pick a dramatic moment?

I haven't started my 1600 words yet, I'm procastinating with this blog. :)  It's alittle intimidating to me I guess. I'm officially in a contest against people who are mostly published authors and have done this before. I can't turn off my editing and I'm afraid I'll just keep falling behind. I'm starring at the tab at the bottom of my screen that says Earth is open and waiting, and my palm's are sweating. I'm actually doing this. I'm going to work on my book and maybe finish it by the end of the month.

It's exciting but scary as well.

I've procastinated enough I think. I need to start this JANO off right and write. :)
