The Ratta Arc

The Ratta Arc or Blood Arc of the Ghostwolf series starts with Raven Manor.

Raven introduces the characters, the Lexicon, and some of the secrets our world hides. The Del Mulanti Ruv being one of the main secrets as well as the existence of Le Ratta Lexicul.  Both are explained under Pages at the right.

The Blood Lexicon continues the Arc by bringing in some more of the secrets and explaining more about the Lexicon and its Keeper. This book gets down to the nitty gritty.

In the third book we learn why the Shavora are so important to both the Ruv and the world as a whole as well as more of the Lexicon's secrets.

These three books are what I have planned right now for the Ghostwolf series. That doesn't mean there aren't more coming in the future but these are all I have written down in my idea journal.  Not to mention I have 30 other books just waiting in the wings to be written. All started but on hold until their bunny starts thumping away at my brain.

I picked the Roma as the Ruv's chosen because I think they would be more accepting of the Ruv. Being on the end of discrimination themselves at times, I think they would welcome the Ruv as 'brothers' and 'sisters' and would not judge them harshly.  I am not expert with languages but I researched Romani and found different dialects/versions. So I mixed them together. The common language of the Ruv and Roma would have changed over the centuries, they and it are not static, and made a mashed up Common Tongue. There is a glossary under Pages at the right.

I have Lexicon and book one of the Song Saga open right now. When I get stumped or have writer's block on Lexicon, I work on Last Song until I can go back to Lexicon. I plan to have them both done by the middle to end of 2021.

So check out the first book Raven Manor. Special pre-order price of 99 cents.

Holiday Resolutions

Raven Manor is up for pre-order and will be published in the new year.

The second book of the Ghostwolf series has been started and is underway.

Last Song, the first book of the Song Saga, is also started.

I plan to finish the last two and publish them by the end of 2021. Book 3 of the Ghostwolf series will be published in 2022. That will finish the Ratta Arc of the series.

This time of year is a time of reflection. Thinking about the past year and about what the new one will bring. Making plans to improve.

However those plans usually fall by the wayside within months if not weeks as life moves on. Old habits die hard and life itself just gets in the way. I try to make goals that I know I will reach, that I will strive to reach. Humans can be lazy creatures and I'm guilty of that far too often. But once I set my mind to something I get it done, though it may be later than planned.

I have thousands of stories in my head. The ones that get done are the ones with the more vicious bunnies that thump my brain. Some of those bunnies are like Bunicula and sink fangs as well as thumping until I satisfy them enough that they give way to one of the others. The stories will get written, just the when is in doubt.

So the only resolution I really make is that I will keep writing. That I will strive to improve said writing and network with and support my fellow writers.  Beyond that I make no promises.

RavenManor

Raven Manor is up for Pre-order.

Dark Fantasy or supernatural crime drama is how I would categorize it.

I set the date of publication as January 11,2021. I might have to change that. It might be sooner.  We'll see.

Everything is done except for the paperback. I haven't received the proof yet.

An unusual murder scene just before Halloween starts off this savory read.

The unusual isn't strange around that time of the year. People seem to go more crazy then and Detective John Hanlan has seen a lot of insanity as a homicide detective.  But this sends shivers up his spine.

There is more to this than just murder.

Start the new year off right with this unusual read.

OOOPS

I realized after I changed my main blog address that all my business cards have the old blog address. So instead of wasting the cards and getting new ones, I set up a blog on my old address to direct them to this blog. Hopefully that doesn't discourage them. Or confuse them.

Raven Manor is as I have said an introduction to my supernatural yet contemporary world.

Del Mulanti Ruv live among us, virtually indistinguishable from us but for their eyes. Cognac colored until they are hit by strong emotion or when they transform, then those eyes turn topaz and gleam. They lived among their chosen Roma for centuries before venturing out on their own and settling in every corner of the World. But they kept the Romani language and some of their ways, integrating both their ways and laws with the Roma's.  They have adapted to the world around them while keeping their own.

But make no mistake, the Ruv have not been tamed.

Ghostwolf series: the Ratta trilogy

Le Ratta Lexicul or the Blood Lexicon is at the heart of these first three books. Raven Manor introduces the book, The Blood Lexicon shows its power on both humans and Ruv, and the third book in this series will be about the necessity of the Shavora or the Companions. These three books are all I have planned right now.

That doesn't mean there won't be more. Just that these are all I have story ideas wrote down for right now. The Ratta(blood) arc.

In Raven Manor the Del Mulanti Ruv and the Le Ratta Lexicul are introduced as are the MCs and the MV--Main Characters and Main Villain. For more on the Ruv see the entry under Pages.  The first book gives you the lay of the land, as it were, while the second book gets down to the nitty gritty. One gets thrust into the occult craziness that the Lexicon brings out in both humans and Ruv and takes you for a ride through the dark side of both.

The third book is just bare bones right now, but the Ruv's companions feature prominently.

I already have the cover for the second book and have started the book bible. Names, names, and more names. Gotta have just the right name.  "Hey, bad guy" just won't do it. :)

Raven Manor is still pending.

It should be published soon.

Raven Manor

Raven Manor holds secrets humans weren't meant to know. What shadows hide within its walls and kill any who threatened to reveal its mysteries?

The book is pending. To tide you over for a while here is the blurb.

Blurb reveal

Raven Manor had many secrets--and more bodies--attached to it than the two unusual murders Detective Hanlan was there to solve. What ripped throats out yet left little blood?

And Hanlan's new partner has secrets of his own. He seems to know more than he should. Was he involved in the murders?

Detective Hanlan knows that the dark side is very real. He sees the evil that humans do to one another every day. This case is darker than any he's ever witnessed. But good and evil are very much in the eye of the beholder.

Hanlan must see both sides if he is to survive in the new world revealed to him. What Hanlan uncovers is more than just pathological motive, however, it's something right out of a horror movie.

I can't wait til it's published. This is just the intro to this savory series.

Ship Song or Last Song

My new WIP's working title is shipsong.

Right now I have a little over 4400 words. There is a little snippet under Pages. You might want to check it out.

It is a sci-fi, but not the one I had plan to work on.

Humans have span space, at least the systems 'close' to home/Terra. They have become a part of the Federation of Allied Systems which spans the known solar systems and encompasses many species. But they have not left all their old prejudices behind. On top of that another 'young' race seeks to rule the Federation or destroy it. The Ancient Ones are spoken of in whispers for they had all been decimated in a Great War and their tech forbidden, though sought by the Black Market and Human Universities.

A Salvager Captain has found a clue that may lead him to the Ancient Ones' homeworld.

This is where the story begins.

What do you think?

It is more Star Wars than Star Trek. Dark with sarcastic humor.

Contest thought

I want to do a contest. The prize would be a signed copy of one of my books and a beaded bookmark with a beaded bracelet which I made.

I make beaded bookmarks between book writing. Idle hands.

I need a signature phrase to write in my books when I'm at a signing. No bland phrase like "Happy Reading" or "Best Wishes".  I want something you readers would like.

My own phrase is bland (maim hara gaya hum or in English "I am Lost") as I always go blank when I pick up the pen to sign. So I decided to pick someone else's brain since mine seems to be zombified.

Time-travel or dragon related phrases are bonuses.

Comment the phrase below.

Two entries per person.

Contest ends December 8th and winners will be announced by the 10th.

If you are the winner I will PM you on Facebook to get your address to send the book and bling/swag.

Cover reveal take 3

Raven Manor is still being looked over. But I plan to have it out by February or before. I'd like to publish it at Christmas but I might have to do more work on it.

This is the cover I'm going with now.

I'm not sure what to classify this book as really because it has a bit of crime drama, paranormal mystery, and urban fantasy mixed together.

Detective John Hanlan learns that some fairy tales are real--and deadly. Good and Evil are all in the eye of the beholder and Hanlan must see both sides if he is to survive in the new world revealed to him.

When it comes out, please read it and review. Tell me what you would classify it as

I'm working on shipsong. I only got 3212 words so far.  I'm writing it in the style my dragon fantasy is in more than my sci-fi. Though the style is really a combination. I might write more about Ze'ev. There is much to know about her.

Is that vague enough or should I give a mysterious laugh? :)

More about shipsong next week.

New blog

I started a new book review/intro blog called Novel Reads.

Most of the books will come from my TBR list which are ebooks that caught my attention through my Facebook feed. So a lot of them are Indie but some are traditionally published. I plan to read a book and then add it to the blog, giving it a rating, a brief, very brief summary, and the link on Amazon. As to grading the book, I will use stars.  I don't want to give spoilers but I won't sugar coat if part of the book makes me lower the star rating.

I read everything from true crime fiction to science fiction. However a large part are mystery and paranormal.

I generally read about one book a week, depending on time and page allowances. If I have four hours of undisturbed time per day I can actually read a full book in two days.

The link to my review page is on this blog.

Next WIP

I have four stories in the pipe.

I had planned to work on Emnity, the Alliance book. But I ran across Shipsong, a story I had started with someone online a long time ago and never finished. At least I didn't.

It hooked my attention again so that's what I'm going to be working on. Thus four stories in the pipe. It's a sci-fi with a bit of time travel and apocalypse thrown it. Working title--shipsong/officially--Mortal Song. At least for now.

I'm not working steadily on Mortal Song as Raven Manor may need some work done on it. Raven is getting edited and I'll see.  I have some more I can add if needs be.

I've been catching up on my TBR list and re-read a favorite. Nothing like curling up with a good book and drinking your favorite beverage whether that's tea, coffee, or wine.

Fini

 Finished Raven Manor.

47449 words. I could have written more but this was a good place to stop. The next stopping place would have been at least 20,000 words further.  Maybe more.

I had planned on three books but maybe two would be better. This book introduces the arc and I could continue on for a bit but I am unsure if I should . I need another perspective.

This is just the first draft so I'll have an editor look at it and tell me what they think. I've stared at it so long I need a break.

But for now I'm done.  I finished the first draft and I'm going to celebrate while the editor looks it over. Once I get it back I'll know more on what to do next. Rewrite or add more. Or just fix things here and there.

Watching movies and reading books are on the agenda for celebration. I'm going to watch some favorite 'Tis the season  movies'--Lethal Weapon and Die Hard. It just isn't Christmas windup until Hans Gruber falls and Martin and Roger do their banter.  I'm going to read some of the ebooks on my TBR list on my phone. Curl up with a good book or movie and drink hot chocolate. Love the fall and Christmas seasons.

Do you have a movie(s) you watch this time of the year?

I read another article about pen names and book signing this last week. It said you should think about how you want to sign the book.  Once you decide you should practice signing so it is smooth when you do sign.  I've just been signing my regular signature. Perhaps I should change up. I'll think on it.

How do you sign your book?

Ruv halloween

First--Happy All Saints' Day. Hope everyone had a good All Hallow's Eve.

Raven Manor is almost done. 44,707 words and counting. Tying up loose ends and introducing a new element before ending. Already have a basic title and idea for book 2 of this series.

October has a special meaning to the Ruv. The changing of the season starts their new year. It is a legend holdover that is passed down through the generations. October is the last of their 'calendar' year and November the first of their year. They have adopted the human names for the months but keep to their own 'calendar'. So All Hallow's Eve is their New Years Eve and celebrated.

Their celebration is of course different in that they transform to their wolf form and congregate in packs and hunt. Who or what they hunt is up to the pack leader and the individual. The prey is hunted until midnight, then brought down. It has had to change a bit with the times but it has remained though the centuries vertially the same.

How novel 11

Raven Manor is moving along well. 43,547 words and 26 chapters. A few more chapters and it will be editing time.

I edit a bit while I write but after I finish I go back over everything. First with spell check, then I read each chapter singularily and edit. When that's finished I send it to Sharon for a proofread.

By then I'm tired of it and need a break. :)

How do you edit? Do you use betas? Or do you hire someone for that first edit?

Justice is partially served by Hanlan's reckoning. And Karma's a bitch.

The Secret is safe for now but too many know about it.  Will they be able to keep it safe until it's Keeper is found?

Or will the other forces at play snatch it away and bring about darkness to both the humans and the Ruv?

A new tradition

I saw a good entry the other day and thought I'd share it here because I'm thinking about starting it myself. I don't have kids but I do have some extended family.

Iceland has a tradition called  Jolabokaflod that on Christmas Eve you gift a book and spend the rest of the evening reading it and drinking hot cocoa. I think this is a marvelous idea and a good tradition to start this year. Don't you?

If you're unsure about what book they would like you can get them a book-adjacent gift. I'm of the idea that it's the thought that counts. And readers love everything to do with books.

Maybe a bookshelf and spend the evening putting it together together, then relax with cocoa and cookies or chocolate. Or get them a bookend set and spend some time figuring out where to put them before relaxing with the cocoa and cookies. Maybe a collection of bookmarks if they're always loosing their place or collect them. Look through them and enjoy the cocoa and cookies while you do so.

There are even postcards with novel covers on them, candles that smell like old books or new books, and a a book lamp that looks like a hardback book when closed. There are literally hundred of items to choose from.

So start a new tradition this year.

Raven Manor is coming along nicely. 40,006 words as of this morning. Tying up loose ends right now. Have a few more chapters to go, then it's edit time.

How novel 10

The cover and miscellaneous other things that go into readying it for publishing are done for this book. I plan to do a hardback for it when I publish. A crime drama or mystery just doesn't seem right without it being a hardback. It will cost more but I think it will be worth it.  Though I usually get paperbacks I love hardbacks if I'm going to keep the book. I think they look better on a shelf. And they seem to last longer after repeated reading.

I'm still rounding the bend and will be nearing the homestretch pretty soon. 36,547 words.

Got to  have the murder investigation officially still open but pending to be a cold case, tie up loose ends, and figure out what to do with the big secret. And a few small secrets need looking into.

The secret here is what is inside this book.

Justice is served.  But was it by human or Ruv law?

Hanlan and Canin will have to do a bit of creative writing to explain why the case ended  as it did--unless providence shines upon them.

How novel 9

Raven Manor is at 35,006 words. 22 chapters. Rounding the bend and nearing the homestretch.

A surprise meeting after the confrontation. Is it good or bad? Of course that's in the eye of the beholder.

Raven Manor's main secret has been revealed by Hanlan. It's not meant to be known to humans, even the Ruv's Chosen. What will happen now?

A bit of history on Raven Manor.

It was originally called Ruven Manor. And though it is thought to come from England it is actually from Romania. It is unknown why it was moved or even sold because the family it belonged to mysteriously disappeared.

How novel 8

Had a bout of writer's block these last few days. Raven Manor is at 33,050 words.

I'm unsure about the part I'm working on right now. It's not fully formed yet, just vague images. Fire and death. It happened off-screen as it were and some time ago. So how to convey.

Coming up to the confrontation with the one 'bad guy' or Shilmulo. Shilmulo is a Del Mulanti Ruv that has fallen to the dark. English: a Ghostwolf who turned vampire.

Canin, Hanlan's partner, has revealed two of his secrets. But he has more that he isn't telling.

Hanlan unveils an ancient secret that the killer wanted for themselves. What will happen now that the secret is revealed?

How novel 7

Raven Manor is up to 32,000 words. Getting closer.

Don't know if I want to follow everyone that follows me on Instagram. I'm not a follower counter. I want my readers and fellow writers to be able to follow me but it seems like everyone is just following to have a lot of followers.

Boy, there's a lot of that word in that paragraph! LOL. :)

Is that what Instagram is really about?

Anyway, I'm unsure.

Also I'm floundering as to what and when to write on instagram. I did a few serious posts but I don't know what I want this account to be. There are review accounts, writing accounts, etc. But I don't know what I want for mine. I'm still finding my way.

Still can't fix my word counters. They just stay at 0. IDK. I'm just going to leave them be for now. They at least name the books I'll be working on.

Hanlan returns to Raven Manor to test the validity of the secret he uncovered. Danger stalks around him.

Will the killer get there first and achieve their goal or will Hanlan cheat them in the eleventh hour?

Friday, September 25, 2020

How novel 6

Raven Manor is coming along. 29,030 words. 18 chapters.

Getting the hang of Instagram. Not posting a lot yet. Writing serious pieces though. Check me out. www.instagram.com/t.l.riffey

Here's this week's hint. Everything in the picture applies toward the secrets of Raven Manor.

Another secret is revealed and Hanlan learns the reason why two strong independent women would kill to possess Raven Manor.

There is yet another secret at Raven Manor which Hanlan has figured out. It puts him in even more danger.

Will he be able to get to the answers before the killer completes their task or will he have to pick up the pieces?

Revealed

E S Stephens revealed Raven Manor's cover on her September 13th post. If you want to stop by her blog, it's http://esstephensauthor.co.uk

I will reveal it again closer to release.  Though I showed it on Instagram the other day.

That's right. I'm now on Instagram.  t.l.riffey. I'm expanding my platform. But I draw the line at Twitter! :)

Raven Manor is coming along nicely.  Over 27000 words. Passing halfway. I estimated 50000 words or there a bouts.

My word counters are not working. I can't figure out why. They all reset to zero. IDK

The missing have been found and another secret is revealed.

Hanlan learns that not all stories are fairy tales and the dark side is very real. But good and evil are very much in the eye of the beholder.  Each being has their own set of morals and they may not be the same as your own.

Guest

I recently joined some new FB writer groups and mentioned in them as well as some of my older groups that my WIP is a supernatural crime drama/paranormal mystery. One of the members E S Stephens contacted me to do a co-op blog share, even though both our new books are months from publishing. I of course agreed as we were both wanting exposure for our upcoming new books.

E S Stephens upcoming new book Drau: Scion is second in the series called Drau the Series. It is due out in December.

The first book in the series Drau: Blood is available through Amazon uk, Barnes and Noble, and other places where books are sold.  So if you're in the mood for a frightfully good book for the fall season check this book out.

Here is a taste of this savory read.

Over two centuries have passed since the great noble houses of the Draurhegar allied to see an end to the Dwentar War with the hordes of the Dwarven nation. Since then the great alliance has fractured. Outwardly a fragile peace falls across the kingdom. While in the shadows, scores are settled in a bid to rule supreme in the Kingdom's great capital of Everfall.

Cerberus and Cerberex are reluctant heirs. Born with the endowed blood of House Dhal-Marrah, the house of assassins and once favoured of the crown. Yet more than just tradition compels them to follow in the footsteps of their ancestors. With the flames of civil war stirring, they face an adversary whose hatred knows no bounds and whose greatest weapons are the people they love most.

Filled with political intrigue, dark secrets, and thrilling adventure, Drau: Blood marks the beginning of an epic fantasy in a world where the only common currency is death!

Hump week

Hit a bit of writer's block this week. Didn't get as much written as I normally do. A new idea struck and I had to go down that rabbit hole for a bit to see where it would lead.  I liked some of the things that came up so I'll be incorporating some new things.

Hanlan returned to the scene of the original crime Raven Manor itself. He has discovered one of its secrets but is being stalked through its shadows.

Raven Manor has many secrets. Hanlan plans to uncover them and solve his case. But knowing those secrets is just as dangerous as stumbling about blind.  Hopefully his strange new partner has his back.

Questions

Raven Manor is still coming along nicely. Over 23,000 words. About 14 chapters. So nearly half way through.

Like a game of Clue murder mysteries are all about the questions. In this case you have the where but the rest must be found out. You are introduced to the suspects and given clues. Tidbits of facts are rolled out little by little. Giving hints toward the murderer.

But watch out for the red herrings!

Some clues are misleading. Not all the facts are shown. At least not until the big reveal.

Raven Manor follows Hanlan, dipping into his thoughts now and then, as he investigates the murders. He has been a homicide detective for a long time and has seen many strange things but these murders are something else. He seems like a regular cop but he has hidden depths. Depths that he didn't even know he had.

Get a sneak peek at chapter 1 in Teaser 5 under Pages on the right.

A sneak peek at Raven Manor

Raven Manor and one of the suspects.  J. L.

A sneak peek at chapter 1 is in Teaser 5 under Pages.

The book is coming along nicely.  Over 20000 words. Nearing halfway.

One suspect remains to be questioned.

Hanlan has been threatened.

Del Mulanti Ruv

They are a version of the werewolf. A vampiric version. Long-lived but not immortal, their main source of nourishment is blood, though they can eat human food.  They are stronger than humans and heal faster  but otherwise look human.  Like humans there are good and bad among them.

How Novel 5

Ghostwolf (the working title) or Raven Manor (the official title) is still coming along nicely. Over 18,000 words.

A sneak peek at chapter 1 is in Teaser 5 under Pages on the right.

I have the cover done. Has elements of classic horror and mystery. I will reveal the cover closer to publishing.

I've also been working on a FB post for the book.  A bit of a Gothic touch to it. It's not quite done.

Hanlan, the main character, seems a normal sort of cop. His new partner on the other hand is another matter. He's quiet and keeping secrets.  Hanlan is understandably wary.

And it turns out he has a right to be. One of those secrets affects the case.

But not in a way you would expect.

TheSecrets that are  involved could change the way humans look at the world. Good or Evil. It is all in the eye of the beholder.

Hanlan will have to make a choice. Human law or ...

:)

Guess you'll have to read the book to find out.

Sale!

I'm lowering the price of my sci-fi Resurgent to 99 cents for 3 days. I'm doing this to entice you to read and review it. The sale starts Sunday Aug 23.

If you're not into sci-fi, then check out my dragon fantasy The Last Dragon Kin.

The next book is my supernatural mystery Raven Manor. It should be out by March of 2021.

Speaking of ghostwolf it is coming along nicely. Over 17,000 words so far.

Two suspects seem to be collaborating which isn't good for the investigation. Did they kill together too?

Check out Teaser 5 under Pages for a peek at Raven Manor.

How Novel 4

Got a 5 star review on my Dragon book. That makes 3 reviews. If you've read either of my books please review. Authors love feedback.

Ghostwolf or Raven Manor whichever you prefer to call my WIP is coming along nicely. Over 16,000 words. I accidentally had it in Courier font instead of Times. So much better now.

Chapter One is in Pages under Teaser 5. Enjoy.

Ten chapters in and only 3 of the suspects questioned. 2 men and two women. Are men the only ones capable of such violent murder? After all women are the gentler sex aren't they?

Revealing some of the mystery behind the Manor. There have been other deaths associated with the Manor as well as a few disappearances. Are the recent murders related to them or is everything just coincidence?

Is the secret Raven Manor hides the reason for everything?

Or is it just greed?

Blog status

My blogs Time after Time and Sidereal Time are going to be frozen. I'm not going to be updating them until I get back to the books for which they're for.  I wrote an entry for each yesterday and that will be the last until I write the next Books.

I will still be updating this blog. It's my main blog as well as the blog for my mystery books.

And I will periodically update the Alliance blog. That book is next to be written after Raven Manor.

Raven is still coming along nicely. 67 pages. And over 14,000 words.

Introduced two new suspects. So 4 all together.

One seems a shoe in but is she?

Another may have the means. But would he really kill his own parents?

Money seems the motive for the other two. Or is it something else for one of them?

And just what is so special about Raven Manor that it would cause all this mayhem?

Ghostwolf status

My ads have ended.

Only one sale. But 800 pages read. So not bad for 10 days.

I think I'll do another ad later on. I got to look over my finances. I had an unexpected expense for this month so I'm short.  FB groups for sure.

Raven Manor is still coming along nicely. 53 pages. Over 10,000 words.

About to introduce another suspect. Spoiler!

Is the murderer the lawyer, the client, or the stepson? Each have a motive and two have no alibi. But of course there's murder for hire.

And there's another suspect in the wings.

So who murdered the Graves?

And what is so special about Raven Manor?

Amazon ad

Got some reads for Resurgent so either the ad or my group splashing is doing something.

I did an ad for Dragon Kin. There's been some reads there too.

Neither is a lot but at least it's something.

I watched the movie Knives Out. Loved it.  Murder mysteries are what I like to read most and I tend to watch movies more along those lines than others but I like horror almost as well. I read and watch a variety of stories/movies though.

Which is why my books are different genre. Urban fantasy, Dragon fantasy, sci-fi and the one I'm working on is supernatural mystery.  I had planned just to write one genre at a time but my forced hiatus dis-swayed me. I'm going to write the first book in the four series I have planned out, then do the second book of each.

So I have planned but you know what they say about plans. They don't always make it past the first engagement.

We shall see.

Raven Manor is still coming along nicely.  Another chapter down.  43 pages in. 9023 words.  Story took a turn. The new murder victim wasn't who I originally thought it would be. Another thought came to mind and took over. Those bunnies can be real forceful.

Resurgent is published

Both the ebook and the hardcopy are out.

I did an Amazon ad for a week or so. Hopefully I'll get some sales.

Ghostwolf or Raven Manor is still coming along nicely. It seems to be flowing a bit at a time. I've been reading it to Jan every few days and she says she likes it.

Sometimes I only write a paragraph or two, others a page. I don't push it. I just write whatever comes, then read a book if nothing else comes out. This is yet another style.

I decided to write however the story comes to me.

Dragon Kin hasn't had a read in a week. But I'll be getting a payment the end of the month. Less than$10 but at least I'll get one.

I don't know if I want to do another ad for Dragon Kin to stir up interest or not.  I'm still thinking about that.

Cards are in

My new cards.

I still have my secondary cards which I'll still pass out but these have my new writer's name.

Resurgent proof is being proofread. Still aiming for the end of the month.

Dragon Kin has stalled. No new reads for over a week.

Just updated my other blogs so check them out.

Raven Manor is coming along nicely. I started another chapter. Introduced a possible suspect and hinted at another.  I'm thinking about adding a bit of multiverse to this book.  A hint and see if anyone notices or if they think it's a mistake.

:)

I've been reading Father Dowling mysteries as I write Raven Manor.  I have his two books with short stories. Some of the few hardcopies I have left.  I can read them over and over again. Love Father Dowling. Gets me in the mystery writing mood.

So far the Alliance bunnies and the supernatural bunnies are co-operating and the other bunnies are being quiet so I can work on Raven and Enmity.  I want to get them out next before I go back and do second Books.

New cards

I ordered new business cards with my new name on them. They should be here soon.

I decided to change my author name on my newer books. I revamped my writing style so I changed my name slightly.

T. L. Riffey instead of Tina.

I had thought about using my fanfic name on them but decided that that was not a good idea. It should be a name that would be a good brand for the books.

My older books are still available. They are written in what I call"movie style", fast-paced action with little description. I will keep them available and finish the last book in the Elemental Voice series. But Mortal Voice series is on hold.

Dragon Kin is out and Resurgent is coming out at the end of the month. My next book is a supernatural mystery/thriller. An Alliance book is slated for after the mystery.  I have the second book of each series ready to start. Some of the covers are even done.

However I am still looking for names for villains. I like names that have meaning to them. I am thinking about having a contest to name a villian for one of my books. The prize would be a signed copy of that book and a beaded bookmark.

What do you think? It would be next year before I'd have the contest and who knows how long to write the book. But the beaded bookmark would be sent right away.

It was something I had on my mind.

Or I could use a placename for the main villian in the Alliance book and have a contest to name her. Hmm.

Well, have to think on that.

Proof is ordered

Resurgent is uploaded and proof should be here by Monday.  FB post is ready. So everything should be a go by the end of the month.

The supernatural mystery is coming along nicely.  I'm starting a new chapter. I might do the chapters different. I might actually name them. I've been thinking about that. I also have an actual title: Raven Manor. Book 1 of Hanlan &Canin. The working title is still ghostwolf.

I already have an idea for the second book.  And a title: The Lexicon Codex.

Raven Manor cover is tentatively done. I have a picture for the second cover.

I get all these ideas and sometimes I have a problem following through. I have to pace myself.  I'm going to concentrate on ghostwolf as the main story and Enmity as the writer's block work. However that doesn't mean I won't write in the other books. Ideas hit me all the time.

Those bunnies are persistent.

New story

I opened a supernatural mystery.

I was looking through my older stories and stumbled across one titled 'ghostwolf'. So I read it cause I didn't remember writing it.  Once I read I remembered that it came to me in a dream.

And I immediately wrote two more paragraphs.

Then two more the next night.

The main character is Detective John Hanlan, a homicide detective. He is called in to a strange double homicide at an equally strange house. On top of that he is assigned a new partner who is odd himself. Hanlan gets a new view on the world around him as the case goes on.

The supernaturals in this book are a mix of werewolf and different vampire lore. With a dash of magic.

So I have four books open right now. I still haven't chosen which one is to be next. Though I'm leaning towards the ghostwolf and Alliance books.

Resurgent should be out in July. Sharon said I'm next. So I should be able to order the proof soon. I can't wait to hold it in my hand.

Book signing ideas 2

I still haven't figured out what to write in my new books when I sign them other than name and date.

"Happy Reading" was what I used to sign my older books but I want something fresh for my new books. Something with 'zing'!

I came up with FB posts for the books but I keep drawing a blank for signature sayings.

All the articles I read say it should have a connection to the book or a character from the book. There's a lot of articles about book signing ideas but not much on what to write in the book when you sign.

I'm going to ask my caseworker about what she thinks. She might stimulate a thought or even come up with one that I like.

Resurgent should come out next month (July). It's in the final stages. I should be able to order the proof soon.

Dragon Kin has had a few sales and reads. The ad ends in a few days so I'll assess then.

Please if you read, review. Authors love feedback.

My books

My older books are available still. They are about an earth reader--an elemental voice--who works with the FBI to solve unusual murders. Well the Elemental Voice series anyway.  Mortal Voice series has her running a missing persons business with a PI.

Elemental Voice series also has vampires and set in alternate reality while Mortal Voice series is set in today's society.

Both are written in what I call 'movie style'. Fast-paced action with little description.

They are good for a fast read.

Last of the Dragon Kin is written in a different style than my other books as well as a different genre. It is still fast-paced and a good read but more descriptive and character driven.

Dragon Kin is set in medieval-like world with reptilian Stress and Messengers that go on secret missions. Dragon's are all but extinct yet are dreamed about by rebels.

Then there's Resurgent.

My sci-fi book is also in a different style than my other books. It's still with the publisher.

So that's what my books are at right now.

Please review if you read. The links are to the right.

A tat about my books

Resurgent is close to being published. I had to rework it a bit and send it back in. Once it's looked over again it will be on to the next step.

Dragon Kin has a few new reads on KU. I'm waiting till the end of the month to assess it.

I have three books open right now.  Emergent, Enmity, and Dragon's keeper. I haven't decided yet which one is the next book.  Usually I pick one main one and another one as a writer's block work. But I might just work on all of them.

My older books are available but be warned. They are written in what I call "movie style" or fast-paced action with little description.

My new books are written in different style. They are still fast-paced though.

If you like quests you'll like Dragon Kin so give it a try.

And please review

Housekeeping

Did a little housekeeping as you can see on the blog. I think it looks a little better.

Resurgent is still with the publisher. Check out Time after Time blog for any updates.

Dragon Kin has three sold and some pages read.  If you read please leave a review. I want to know what you think.  Besides changing genre I changed the style so I want to know if you like the change.

My older books are available. I lowered the price on two of them. If you read please review. But be warned they are written in what I call 'movie style'. Fast paced action with little description.

Authors love reviews so if you read please review on Amazon or Goodreads or on their website/blog.

Reading and writing

Went through a few of my stories last night. I added a few words to some and re-read others. Lining them up for writing.

The ones in the time-lost and Fallborn folders are the ones to be next.

I already have the next one. The Dragon's Keeper. With Emergent open as well. They're the next two on the list.

After that I'm not sure what one to do but the last Elemental Voice is going to be open to work on. I want to close that series at least. Mortal Voice series is on hold.

I have one more Fallborn book ready to go after Keeper. That doesn't mean I don't have other dragon books just not Fallborn series books.

I also have three more time-lost books ready to start. Plus the Sacrim series book 1.

So I have plenty to do. Time on the other hand. I got projects to do this summer so I can't spend all my time on writing like I want to.

Not to mention budget. If I don't make money I can't spend money.

So expect another book out next year. Maybe two. Winter is good for writing. But
no more this year.

Blogs will be regularly updated at least once a week. Maybe more. Spare time will be used for books, whether reading or writing, and blogs.

I'm still thinking about a signing. But unsure with everything that's going on.

So that's what the status is for now.

Monday, May 11, 2020

Just another Monday, not

New day.

First I'm going to try out a new thing on FB. Writer's digest Monday. I'm going to share a writer's digest post that I liked on my author account every Monday. To get you in the writing mood.

And I'm going to try to make more posts. Hopefully not ramblings. Content to be decided later.

And I'm going to tighten up my blogs. I ramble a lot and I've been told that it's not professional. But these blogs are both professional and personal so I'll still be personal but straighten it up a bit.

Scene of the Crime is my main blog so it will probably have more personal stuff than the others. Time after Time is for time-lost series and sci-fi while Sidereal Time is for dragon and fantasy.

I also have one for The Alliance series. They are different than the others. You'll see why when I write them.

I need to get more serious than I have been. I was just coasting along. But now I want to get my stuff together. I want to see if I can make a good job of these books.

Friday, May 8, 2020

Blog posts

I've been told that I need to change the way I write my blog entries. That they are not professional.

I'm going to take some of the advice. Entries will be smartened up but still intimate. Some have been ramblings and I'll try and stop that.

I also need to change my presence on FB. Or rather have more presence. At least on my author page.

So starting Monday I will be changing things a bit. I need to get more serious than I have been.

Status: waiting on proof for my Dragon book. Finished with my sci-fi book. Should be sending sci-fi book to publisher's within two days.

Dragon book should be out within the week if all goes well 👍

Tuesday, May 5, 2020

Cinco de Mayo

I'm done with the sci-fi book but I'm rewriting the ending and the beginning. Just not satisfied so I guess I'm not really done yet.

After I fix them I have to edit. Spell check first, then a read through.

My dragon book proof should be here by Saturday. I'll look it over but it should be fine.

I can't wait to hold it in my hand. I worked on it for years and with Travis as my writing companion. Finally got it done and now to be published.

Now all I got to do is the marketing for it. I may try Amazon ad but I'm not sure. I'm working on a FB post for it right now.  Just got to figure out a slogan or phrase. Something catchy.

So that's what I'm doing on Cinco de Mayo.
No alcohol involved. I don't need it to have fun.

Enjoy the day!

Next book out soon

My dragon book is coming out soon.

Just finished the corrections and sent it back. Not as many as I thought there would be. I'm terrible at punctuation. And if autocorrect is on wrong words show up.

I'm still working on my sci-fi book. Just a bit more then editing.

So everything is coming along nicely.

I organized my books in folders. I had them all in one big folder haphazard. So I've been organizing. Ones I was working on were in current folder but now I got two big folders with little folders inside.

And I stopped putting in my old stories. Most are in a tote right now and I really don't have room to spread out to transcribe them into the computer. Besides I have enough already on computer to work on for quite a while.  Though Dad wants me to get rid of all that paper.

My old stories are all on paper you see. Paper of different size and shape. Most are just one or two chapters. I wrote a lot during my teenage years and during my early twenties.  After that I mainly just wrote the idea down with a few scribbles of the story.

I'm going to concentrate on the stories I already have in the computer.

Unless one of the paper ones suddenly attacks me. Those plot bunnies can be real aggressive.

Book signing ideas

One of the articles I read said that a symbol or drawing might be added to personalize the book. I'm thinking claw marks for the dragon book maybe.

And this symbol for the sci-fi. It's a alien language symbol for a dream I had long ago.

Still working on phrases.

Book signing phrase thoughts

I'm thinking about what to write when I do a signing. I usually just say " Happy Reading" and sign. But I want something more personal seeming.

I want something different for my Dragon book. And different one for the Sci-fi. They are after all a departure from my other books.

For the dragon book I thought maybe "Hope you find your dragon" or "may you find your dragon". Then my signature and date. The sci-fi I'm still thinking about.

I googled book signings and most have this same problem: what to write to personalize the book.  There were a lot of articles but not a lot of help in them. Most said their minds went blank when asked to personalize the book besides the stock phrases of "best wishes" or "thanks for reading" and the like.

There was a suggestion that maybe a phrase which referenced something in the book. Thus my phrase above.

I don't know what to do. I don't want to just use my stock phrase of "Happy Reading" but I can't think of anything else really to write. The phrases above are after an hour's deciding. And I don't have anything for the sci-fi.

My books won't come out probably until end of May or early June. And I don't know if I'll have a book signing right away. But it's never too  early to think about book signings and what you want to write on the book.

I got a signed book that only has the signature. It's a first Ed. so that's good but I'm a little disappointed that there was not personalization. Not necessarily the recipient's name but a phrase or a few words.  Otherwise you could just get a stamp and stamp the name in the book.  Impersonal.

Book signings are personal events. You talk to/ with readers face to face personally. Not to just stamp a book and move on.

What do you put in your books? Personalized or stock?

Do you meet the reader's eyes and talk or do you just smile vaguely and sign?

I hope you think about what you write and greet every reader like a new friend.

How Novel 3

I've been seeing all these books about pandemics being thrown about, marketing the real life problem.

I don't know about you but I don't want to read that kind of book right now. I want something to take me away from what may happen. Though it might help you city dwellers know what to do if it does come about. :)

I've been reading murder mysteries and supernatural books. No romance. I had enough of them growing up and most are the same but I occasionally read a paranormal one if it seems to have a plot besides the romance.

I read to escape real life, not dwell on it.

I do read select non-fiction. Titanic, writing, oak island are a few subjects that I like to read about.

But fiction wise I read to escape, travel to a different world/place where things get solved in a timely manner and the people in charge are intelligent, caring. Not out for their own good, selfish and childish.

Anyway, I don't want read about the massive consequences of human failure, just the consequences of individual failure being righted by one who swore to protect and serve and does.

How Novel 2

I've gone back to updating this blog, Sidereal Time, and Time after Time blogs regularly.

This is still my main blog.

With this isolation thing going on I may blog more than once a week. All this time on my hands.

As long as my reading doesn't snare me, that is. I've been reading more than writing this past week. And time gets away from me when I read. Worse than when I write.

Still working on my sci-fi book. It's slow going right now because something is simmering in the back of my mind but hasn't shown itself yet.

I'm a pantser so it will show itself when it's ready to be written.

Reading

I got hooked on a mystery series. I've read two of them so far. So I got a new author to read now.

I work on my book for an hour or two, then read after dinner. Kindle app but I don't have the money to pay for books right now.

99¢ or $1.99 Kindle if not free. Lots of good free books but the other books in series cost. I've bought the other ones in the mystery series as they were under$5. So I have 4 books for less than one paperback.

Still I love regular books. Just something about holding it in your hands.

Sci-fi is coming along nicely. I hope to be done with it by the end of this month.

I heard that the Con is postponed until next year. I still plan to have my books out this year. If this isolation is done by June or July I'm thinking about having a book signing at ABC Books.

We shall see.

How novel

I like that title.

I thought to use it as a blog main title but went with crime scene as I'm a lover of murder.

Murder mysteries that is.

A good murder scene just revs me up. Love to find clues. And sniff out the murderer.

But writing one is another story. Pun intended. :)

I'm a pantser. I don't plan my books out in detail. I know what the ending is and the beginning but the rest of the story just happens as I write.

I'm trying something different with the sci-fi book. I have four scenes in my head for the book. They go between the beginning and the end and I'm writing to fit them in.

Hopefully y'all will like this book better than my other books. It seems that the effort there was not successful as I didn't get much feedback or even buyers.

My dragon book is also a little bit different.

I do plan to finish the Elemental series as it has one more to go. Mortal Voice series is on hold for now but I do want to finish the two I have started.

Quarentine

So still isolation.

The two nearest Walmarts got bare shelves but our little town market still has stuff.  Dad says it will probably be awhile before we go back to Walmart.  We bought enough we hope for two more weeks.

Finished off a chapter and started the next. But skipped two days of writing to read a book. I also downloaded some Kindle to my phone. I prefer books to Kindle but Kindle is cheaper. Well for some anyway.

But I'm getting there on the sci-fi. A little over half way through yet.

Hopefully y'all will weather all this stuff okay. Those of you with family I think will come out stronger.

Writing time

One good thing about this semi self-isolation is that I have time to write.

Not that I went anywhere much anyway. Like the one meme says I was self-isolating before. :)

But then that's different.

Voluntary vs involuntary. Really this self-isolation is not really voluntary as things have closed down and only a few places still open. More here than others.

I'm watching DVDs and writing since I'm social distancing with my parents as well. Though I see them every morning and at lunch. We live just 50 feet away from each other. Me in my trailer and them in a small house. Nice rural area. So I can go outside and not run into anyone but my parents. And the cats.

Hopefully y'all will weather this okay. I know those of you in the city have it harder. Everything closing down and stuck inside the apartment. And the buses, I don't want to get into that. If they're even running.

And hopefully by June this will just be a memory and we can have the Con. The organizers put a lot into this and I don't want that work to be in vain.

And it would be good to see y'all.

Books to come out sooner

Both my dragon book and my sci-fi book are going to come out this year.

I have already sent the dragon book in since it was already done.  The cover is done and revealed on my blog Sidereal Time.

My sci-fi book is about half way through. I hope to finish up by end of next month.
The cover for it is done and revealed on my blog Time after Time.

Both may come out before the Con. Which would be nice.

They will at least be ready by then.

I got a beautiful table sign that will be premiering at the Con.  I can't wait to show it. But if you want a sneak peek Sidereal Time has a pic of it. As does this blog  in a past entry.

Saturday, March 7, 2020

Pen name

I've decided to use a pen name for my sci-fi series. I used to use it for fanfiction.

TaLeRy pronounced "tah leer ree"

There's also Challan. Though I use that name in the series for a character. I used it for a short story once when I was younger.

But TaLeRy is the first and last initial of my real name and I think it goes well with a sci-fi genre book.

Most of the time I write this book stuff on the blog corresponding to the book. My sci-fi series is on Time after Time, dragon books on Sidereal time, alliance on The alliance, and general on this blog.  Sometimes I doublicate the blog entry if it crosses into more than one book.

But I also add. So don't assume that they are the same just because the title is.

Why

It's been wandered why I call this blog a crime scene.

It's because I spend time writing here instead of on my books. The crime. & the Scene.

And because I like mysteries. Which always involve murder.

Also you finish off a book. A phrase meaning to kill.

Thus a crime scene.

Books & more books

I added a blog to sidereal so you might want to check it out.

I found a finished Dragon book. So I did a cover. It's on sidereal.

The teaser 4 on this blog is the prologue to the dragon book. I had started this book a long time ago. I finally finished it. I guess before my computer went down.

I plan to finish my Elemental series and the Mortal Voice series as soon as possible. I don't want to leave people hanging.  There is one more book for Elemental and two for Mortal Voice that I have planned. After that I will see.

The Time-lost book and the dragon book are the next two to be published. They are both different styles than my other books. I experimented a bit with both to different degrees.

Con registration

Well, I registered for the Con.

So I'm officially going. Got the authors table. Just got to get my stuff together. Which mostly is as I have a tote designated for signings and Cons. I need more books though. So that's next on the agenda.

Also table decor.

Don't know what to get right now but I'll think of something by the Con.  I want something new to capture attention.

I got about 45 bookmarks so far. I have to decide if I want to do more as I'm out of alphabet beads.

The sci-fi book is at over 15,000 words.  5,000 this month so far.  So it's coming along nicely.

Friday, February 21, 2020

Logo idea

My logo idea.

What do you think?

The book is coming along nicely. 450 words yesterday and I hope to see more today. I'm over 13000 right now. So I have over 3000 already for this month. And I still have 8 days to go.

I'm still working on a proper name for a creature called a sworlot. It is a cross between a sloth and a leopard.  Anwar is what I have so far but I don't know. What name would you call it if it was your "pet"?

Sunday, February 16, 2020

Book title thought

I came up with a title idea for my book.

Resurgence

If you've read my time after Time blog then you might have an idea why.

I thought resurgent maybe instead.

I'm still working on the cover though I have a picture I like for it. But I'm just in the starting stage of the cover and the back cover synopsis.

I did over a thousand words each day for two days, then 700 the next day. If I keep this up I will be able to finish the book before June. I did a few paragraphs this morning and I hope to do more later.  Hopefully I'll be able to get at least 700 today.

I made some bookmarks last night. How many I need I don't know. They're time consuming even though simple. But I have a while before the Con.

What does the words resurgence and resurgent bring up to your mind?

What kind of cover does those words conjure in a sci-fi genre to you?

& more things

Even though it's four months till the Con, I'm working on things for it.

I bought a new table cloth. My old one was worn and torn. So I got two. One brown, one blue. Wasn't sure what would look best.

Next I need more table decor. I'll have to think on it.

This is the bookmarks I'm working on. Just basic. I'm thinking about passing them out to everyone. But those who buy my book definitely gets one.

I've been working on my bookmarks more than my book. My brain has been stuck on the Con. Trying to figure out what and how to do it. I get a bit OCD when I plan things. Until I get it to a certain point I can't concentrate on anything else.

I'll snap out of it soon. My brain can only concentrate so long on one thing. My ADD sees to that. OCD and ADD .  Neither can hold away for long before the other knocks one or the other out of the driver's seat.

I did 1200 words this last week. 1000 in on day. I also did some work on the bible but I don't count that in my word count.

Well I guess I should try and get back to work on my book. I've a deadline to meet.

Con plans & things

Between the Pages Con is happening June 19-21 for those who don't know in Springfield, Mo. Saturday is the main day with all the workshops and things.  There are early bird specials so check it out soon.

I plan to go as I said in my last blog entry. Hopefully I'll have a table and be able to go to some of the workshops I want to. I'm still in the planning stage. There's a lot to do before then.

I did a few beaded bookmarks the other day. I'm wandering how many I will need.  They are relatively easy to make but a little time consuming.  But when I can't concentrate on my book I work on the bookmarks.  I've been doing the con's title "between the pages". There are 5 e's and I'm running short. Guess I'll have to get more of them and some t's too.

I put some background on the time-lost series on my Time after Time blog yesterday.  So you can check it out if you'd like.

200 words is all I did for January. Well, half of the month since I didn't start on the book until the second week after I got my computer back. I'm trying to figure out time management and getting the swing of writing again. But I'm getting there. I work on my book in the evening for an hour at least, even if it's just on the bible or fixing spelling errors.

This book will be done by June, though maybe not published. I've set myself a goal with the book. Now I just have to meet it.

Friday, January 31, 2020

Plans for this year

I want to go to the Between the Pages Con in June. That's what I have plans to do in six months.

Between now and then I will be working on my bookmarks and my sci-fi book. I would love to have the book done and out by then but I don't know if I can get it all completed and funded by then.

We'll see.

I plan to sell my mortal Voice book and my beaded  bookmarks whether or not I have the new book series out. As long as I can get the use of my dad's vehicle and money organized anyway. 93 miles is a long way to walk. :)

I'd probably have to stay a night or two at the hotel. So two meals as well. Or I might be able to make other arrangements.  I'll see closer to time. Unless someone wants to share a room?

Anyway I'm working on my book about an hour a day right now. I'm trying to figure out time management and get back into the swing of writing again. My ADD keeps distracting me. Wandering mind

I've got four chapters done so far. The style is different than my other books. Hopefully people will try this one and like it.

It's sci-fi but I'm not sure what subgenre it would be considered. There's a bit of time travel, a bit of altering humans with biomechanics and set on a planet colonized long ago that's on the brink of internal unrest.  I'll have to keep studying the subgenres.

I still don't have a name for the book.  The working title is "commando". There is a reason it's called that.

I'll reveal why in my next blog entry on the Time after Time blog.

The new year

As you can see I have fix up this site.

I plan to keep up my blogs again now that I have my computer back. This weekend should see the blogs all organized.

There's a new blog for my sci-fi series. I've added the link here. Time after Time it's called. There may be more entries there than here though they may be shorter. Anyway just wanted to let you know.

Sidereal time is still there as well. I'm thinking about making it my misc blog while I keep this one as my main.

My Alliance blog I'm not going to do anything with until I get to the books. So still not working on that.

Toby's blog is still up as a memorial.

Peaches' is also up but not linked here. She's fine and roaming around the property. The snow got her attention. She has her own place to go when she gets cold and she's made friends with one of the feral cats that my parents feed. So she's good.

I want to have a book done by the end of the year. Hopefully my sci-fi.

As I said I just wanted to let you know what is happening.

Next step

Well, I read my three stories I had been working on and even wrote 200 words on one. But which one should I be doing or should I just try to catch up with all of them?

It's hard to decide. I've pushed back my writing so much that it feels strange to be able to sit down and write.

A lot of changes have happened in the last two years. Well 18 months since I've had my computer.

I just don't know where to start.

Though writing those 200 words felt good.

I have the last book of Elemental Voice to finish as well as the second book of Mortal Voice and the second one of the companion series.  I had also written a few pages of the first of my sci-fi series Time-lost.

I'm not sure what to do. I'm tempted to do the sci-fi book and make a new start of things. Going back later to finish the Elemental series later as well as the Mortal at some other time.

What do you think?

Got computer back

So yesterday I got my computer back.

I'll be broke for the rest of the month but at least I'll have my stories to work on. I plan to start working on the stories next week after I get used to the new computer. My old had windows 7 and this has windows 10.

Next week I'll go through my stories and start on one or two.

 And go through my fanfiction.

So I'll probably start back with this and the other blogs again.

Just wanted to let you know.

Happy belated New year!
